Pensado's Place Interviews Graham Cochrane (The Recording Revolution)

Two of The New Beatmaker's favourite websites link up for an educational and inspirational exchange.

From hip hop to rock and country; from bedroom enthusiasts to industry insiders, Pensado's Place shares knowledge, good humour and nothing but love with one and all.

I regard the show as an essential resource for anyone interested or involved in music production and / or mixing (for more vital online resources, click here).

Recently Dave and Herb caught up with Graham Cochrane, the man behind another of The New Beatmaker's go-to places for help on production and mixing, The Recording Revolution.

There's a real sense of community and kinship shared between Dave, Herb and Graham here.

This is the kind of kinship that I myself have felt within the beatmaking / production and engineering community at large throughout my time as a beatmaking enthusiast.

There's a tangible sense of community and kinship shared between Dave, Herb and Graham...the kind of kinship that I myself have felt present constant throughout my time as a beatmaking enthusiast.

Dave's CV includes Michael Jackson, Beyonce and Mariah Carey and has multi-million pound technological wizardry at his disposal, whilst Graham and his website eschew the gear-lust and grass-is-always-greener ethos that many a bedroom producer / beatmaker / musician can become obsessed with.

(Artists say) 'If I only had this preamp. If I could only upgrade my DAW. If I only had a better room or acoustic treatment.' Nah, you already have all you need to get killer sounding tracks. You just need a new way of thinking.

To quote Graham:

'I want to eliminate any and all excuses prohibiting great talent from making great recordings. And so often gear is just another excuse.

The Recording Revolution will change the way you think about recording, mixing, and gear.'

Agreed.

No matter your skill set, production budget or musical style for that matter, there's plenty to take away from this episode.  Nice one, guys.
