This Is Ethmo 'World Peace Isn't Just A Dream' and 'People of the World'

REVIEW: A very welcome double-dose of genre-colliding musical meditations

Mark Christopher Lee's This Is Ethmo return to deliver a very welcome double-dose of genre colliding musical meditations, in the form of 'World Peace Isn't Just A Dream' and 'People of the World'.

Eighteen months ago This Is Ethmo crash landed on Earth and onto The New Beatmaker's 'Your Beats' section, with their very enjoyable 'Die Fledermauz' project.  I had this to say at the time:

'There is a myriad of styles and a sense of fun throughout this EP.  I strongly advise you to check it out: Dance-meets-death metal-meets-Middle Eastern-meets-mad-funky funkiness. Bravo!'

'World Peace Isn't Just A Dream' is another wonderful mix of styles.  However, this is not a 100 mph chopping and changing of musical forms.  Instead, this is a grooving mid-tempo bounce through the Himalaya or Tibet; aided by a simple but effective drum loop and some wonderful distorted guitars.  Superb.

'People of the World' is a more high speed journey across the world, merging heavy rock riffs that flirt with Middle Eastern melodies, techno drums, African vocal snatches and a helping of strings.

As if all that wasn't enough, Mark's The Pocket Gods have just released their latest full-length, 'In Search of the Divine', an album full of prog / Indie goodness.

A full review of 'In Search of the Divine' will be coming to The New Beatmaker over the coming weeks.  In the meantime enjoy two tracks from the album below and check out this superb review of the album by Unwashed Territories.

Georgel ‘Colibrí’

REVIEW: 'Colibrí' highlights Georgel’s potential as a superstar in the making

It is always an honour and a pleasure to receive new music to check out and review; especially when it's as enjoyable a listening experience as Georgel’s ‘Colibri’.

A slice of swaggering, sensual, big band pop, ‘Colibri’ is a superb offering from the singer songwriter.
‘Colibrí’ immediately demands listener attention thanks to punchy horn stabs, satisfying drum fills and Georgel’s strong vocals.  Listener attention is maintained throughout due to the athletic and theatrical flair of both vocals and instrumentation. These theatrics never descend into ham or kitsch.

The hook is slinky and sensual, adding an extra layer to an already super-enjoyable cut. The memorable arrangement and vocals, together with professional mixing and mastering mean the song would be as much at home in a big-budget Hollywood musical or Broadway show as it would be on your favourite music streaming service.

A slice of swag…

Forthcoming 'Influenced' Podcast

NEWS: I'm contributing to a new podcast exploring creative connections between legendary and emerging artists

Good news alert!

I’ve got the great honour and pleasure to be working on a forthcoming music podcast.

The podcast, called ‘Influenced’, will trace the path of new artists back to those which came before and reflect on how previous generations of music influenced those which followed their lead, be it directly or indirectly.

Playlists on Spotify and Apple Music will take the listener through our musical time travel in a mixtape fashion.

‘Influenced’ is the brainchild of a great friend of mine, Mark Williams. Mark is even more of a music enthusiast than me and his personality, charisma, enthusiasm and love for music is apparent to anyone who knows him, I’m sure.
